Asphalt inlay for the Rainer - Werner - Fassbinder Platz

Arnulfpark, Munich; Wettberweb 2006, not realized

Surrounded by buildings, a picture lies like a carpet in the middle of the surface. When walking across the square, the viewer sees an alternating play of points, spots, islands and continents, which convey a relation to the width of the square to the pedestrian. The illustration shows a motif from the film "Fear Eats the Soul", one of Fassbinder's most famous films. The motif shows a couple that are opposed to each other on several levels: in skin color, age, gender, culture. The choice of the motif for this square represents the desire to overcome these contradictions in the coexistence of the people in the quarter. The motif also corresponds to the cliché of a movie poster. You can see that this image is constructed and can be clearly assigned to the world of film. This corresponds to Fassbinder's view of the relationship between art and life: “The film is like a rectangle of life. There are limits here and there. But I think the film is more honest because it admits that it is limited space. ”Quote: Rainer Werner Fassbinder
